Coquitlam has finalized the detailed design for the upcoming Burke Mountain Community Centre and neighbouring Burke Village Park, marking a major step toward construction, the City has announced in a press release. The design phase defines the appearance, layout, and key features of both the facility and the park.

According to the City of Coquitlam, early site work is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the community centre and park expected to open in 2029.

The City is inviting residents to an information session on December 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Burke Mountain Discovery Centre on Princeton Avenue. The event will include design renderings, project updates, and opportunities to speak with staff. Coquitlam Public Library will hold children’s pyjama story times at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

City staff say the detailed design introduces a range of recreational and community features, including a pool with spray elements, a climbing wall, and a drop slide—described as the first of its kind in Coquitlam. The building will also include a fitness centre, gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms, and a new library branch.

According to the City, the interior incorporates playful and functional design elements, such as a staircase that doubles as a gathering space and a children’s climbing feature. Large windows throughout the facility will connect the pool, gym, library, and lobby with clear sightlines. Plans are also in development to include public art as part of the project.

The new Coquitlam Public Library branch will be located inside the community centre and will offer a curated collection and children’s programs tailored to Burke Mountain families. The branch supports the Library Services and Spaces Strategy, created jointly by the City and the library system.

Next to the community centre, Burke Village Park is being designed as an outdoor gathering space for everyday use and smaller community events. The plan includes flexible seating, umbrellas, an open lawn, and a refined water-play feature offering a mix of mist and jet sprays.
