Port Coquitlam will once again host Western Hockey League (WHL) pre-season hockey this fall, as the Vancouver Giants face off against the Victoria Royals at the Jon Baillie Arena, located inside the Port Coquitlam Community Centre.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Port Coquitlam has hosted WHL pre-season action. Mayor Brad West expressed enthusiasm for the return of the Giants, emphasizing both the city’s love for hockey and the quality of its facilities. “I am excited to welcome the WHL to Port Coquitlam once again,” West said.
“Hosting these pre-season games not only brings high-calibre hockey to our community but also highlights the incredible facilities we have at the Jon Baillie Arena and the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. We look forward to seeing our arena filled with enthusiastic fans from across the region.”
The PCCC serves as a major recreation hub for the city. It features three arenas, including the 751-seat Jon Baillie spectator arena, gymnasium, leisure pool, and fitness centre.
Giants Vice President of Operations and Assistant General Manager, Pete Toigo, highlighted the importance of the city partnership: “We’re grateful to the City of Port Coquitlam for welcoming the Vancouver Giants back for a fourth straight year. Hosting us for a preseason tilt is a tremendous show of community support. We look forward to seeing local fans fill the stands and bring their energy for a great night of WHL hockey.”
