Several road closures and traffic changes will be in place this Sunday for the Terry Fox Hometown Run in Port Coquitlam. The event begins at 10 a.m. at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre, with registration starting at 8 a.m.

Laurier Avenue will be closed between the recreation centre and Coast Meridian Road from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., closures will extend to Coast Meridian Road between Laurier Avenue and Kingsway Avenue, the Coast Meridian Overpass, and the Coast Meridian Connector north of Tim Hortons. Access to the Tim Hortons will remain open via Lougheed Highway.

Kingsway Avenue will also be closed from Wilson Avenue to Broadway Avenue, and Kelly Avenue will be closed between Mary Hill Road and Kingsway Avenue during the same time. Detours will be in place, and traffic control will be managed by the police and volunteers.

Parking at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The City has also announced no parking on both sides of Kingsway Avenue between Wilson Avenue and Broadway Avenue, and along the 1300 block of Laurier Avenue.

According to the City of Port Coquitlam, local residents in affected areas will have access to their homes but may be asked to show identification at checkpoints. Residents are advised to remove parked vehicles by 8 a.m. Sunday to allow volunteers to set up.

Transit routes will also be adjusted during the event. Riders are encouraged to check updated bus information at translink.ca/alerts.

The Terry Fox Hometown Run welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. “Everyone is invited to take part—whether walking, running, cycling, or skating—on this accessible route,” organisers said in a statement.
