Mundy Park Pool is set to reopen on June 1 with new features.   According to a news release from the City of Coquitlam, the upgraded space includes a beach-entry leisure pool, splash zone, lazy river, warming pool, and interactive water features. There’s also more deck space, a lawn with picnic areas, and a new concession stand.

According to the release, the pool is expected to draw more than 16,000 drop-in visits each season and over 2,200 participants in swimming lessons and certification programs.

Residents will get an early look in May through a series of pre-registered swims, with dates available online starting April 25. Registration opens April 29 at coquitlam.ca/registration by searching “MPP Early Access Swim.” The Coquitlam Sharks Swim Club will begin using the pool for training on May 1, ahead of the public opening.

The new design also features universal change rooms, an accessible admissions area, and ramp entry into the lap and dive pools. The project also includes a new drop-off and pick-up zone and a year-round universal washroom accessible from the surrounding park.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency, the city has installed air source heat pumps, LED lighting, and pool covers to retain heat during off-hours. EV charging stations and bicycle racks are also part of the project to support sustainable transportation.

The upgrades were supported by more than $4.4 million in combined funding from the federal and provincial governments through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s Community, Culture, and Recreation stream. The city says the revitalization will help ensure Mundy Park Pool continues to serve the community for decades.
