The City of Port Coquitlam is inviting residents, families, and visitors to honour veterans at the annual Remembrance Day parade and ceremony on Tuesday, November 11. The parade will begin at 10:10 a.m., followed by a ceremony and wreath-laying service at 10:45 a.m. at Veterans Park in downtown Port Coquitlam.

The Port Coquitlam Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 will once again lead the annual event, which will proceed along Shaughnessy Street from Wilson Avenue to McAllister Avenue. The ceremony will conclude at the cenotaph in Veterans Park. The full program is available here.

Road Closures and Traffic Information

According to the City of Port Coquitlam, several road closures will be in effect on Tuesday, November 11, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to accommodate the parade and ceremony.

Closed streets include:

  • Shaughnessy St. from Wilson Ave. to Elgin Ave.
  • Leigh Square Pl. east of Shaughnessy St.
  • Whyte Ave. east of Shaughnessy St. to the southbound alleyway
  • Marpole Ave. west of Shaughnessy St. to the southbound alleyway
  • McAllister Ave. east of Shaughnessy St. to Donald St.
  • McAllister Ave. west of Shaughnessy St. to the southbound alleyway
  • Donald St. from Wilson Ave. to McAllister Ave. (subject to a temporary five-minute closure during the parade)

Detour routes:

  • Wilson Ave. will remain open both ways at Shaughnessy St., except for a brief five-minute closure during the parade.
  • Mary Hill Rd. and Maple St. will remain open to traffic.
  • Mary Hill Rd. will be open from Kingsway Ave. to Wilson Ave.
  • Maple St. will be open from Kingsway Ave. to Wilson Ave.
  • Kingsway Ave. will remain open between Mary Hill Rd. and Maple St.
  • The Shaughnessy Underpass (southbound) will be open to Elgin Ave. West.
  • Access to Marpole Ave., Whyte Ave., McAllister Ave., and Elgin Ave. will be available via Maple St.

Parking and Transit Options

The city is encouraging attendees to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, as parking will be limited near the event site. Walking, cycling, or using public transit is recommended.

Available parking locations:

  • Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) — parking available only until 1:00 p.m.
  • Gates Park
  • Legion Branch #133 at Elgin Ave. and Kingsway Ave.
  • Kingsway Avenue and Mary Hill Road

TransLink will offer free transit on all services, including HandyDART, on Remembrance Day for:

  • Veterans
  • Members of the Armed Forces
  • Police and fire department personnel
  • Coast Guard members
  • BC Ambulance staff
