Community members are invited to participate in the 14th annual Coquitlam Crunch Challenge, proudly sponsored by Nexus
Insurance Brokers Ltd. It will be
taking place on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, to bring together fitness enthusiasts, families, and community members for a day of physical activity and fundraising.

The event is a celebrated local tradition supporting the Coquitlam Foundation’s Community Diversity Fund and KidSport Tri-Cities, emphasizing the community’s commitment to inclusivity and active living. Everyone’s welcome—register for one of the three challenge categories, cheer on a friend, or make a donation.

This year’s Challenge will draw participants of all ages and fitness levels to the popular 2.2- kilometre Coquitlam Crunch trail — known for its steep 437-step climb and panoramic views. Often dubbed a “mini Grouse Grind,” the trail is a favourite for locals looking to push their limits while enjoying the outdoors.

Three distinct categories

Make It or Break It:(8:30 am start) An endurance event where participants complete as many 4.5 km loops as possible within four hours.

8 km Run: (9:00 am start) A double ascent and descent of the trail, testing endurance over 8 kilometres.

Recreational: (10 am start) A non-competitive category encouraging families and individuals to enjoy the trail at their own pace. Pet friendly. Adding to the community atmosphere, the event hub at the Start/Finish area will be a lively and welcoming space.

Local sponsors will be on site to cheer on participants, offer samples, and provide prizes. Several booths will feature giveaways, wellness information, and interactive activities. For even more fun, challenge yourself at the Family-Friendly Games Area—making the day festive, supportive, and engaging for all ages. And it’s not just the humans who will have fun—the event is pet-friendly, and leashed dogs are welcome too.

The Coquitlam Crunch Challenge was originally founded in 2010 by local advocate Alex Bell to raise awareness and funds for diversity-related initiatives.

Since then, it has evolved into a key annual event that has raised over $35,000 for local causes. All registration fees go directly to the
charities. Last year’s Challenge also introduced a team category, allowing groups to participate collectively, fostering camaraderie and teamwork. Medals will be awarded to top performers in both competitive categories, celebrating achievements and encouraging friendly competition.

All “Little Crunchers” under 12 Recreational events will also receive a special medal at the top! Whether racing or strolling, solo or with a team, every participant contributes to a stronger, more inclusive community.
