Premier David Eby spoke with business leaders last week about the future of British Columbia’s economy. The meeting, hosted by the Burnaby Board of Trade, included members of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber said the event gave local businesses a chance to ask questions and raise concerns directly with the premier. “We extend our sincere thanks to Premier Eby for engaging with our members, listening to their concerns, and sharing the government’s priorities for the months to come,” the Chamber stated.

Eby spoke about changes to the foreign worker program, including protections for young workers and safeguards for immigrant employees against low pay, long hours, and unsafe conditions. He also pointed to B.C.’s strengths in global trade, renewable energy, and affordable power, and stressed the need for infrastructure projects that help expand market access.

The Tri-Cities Chamber said these topics connect with issues it is pushing locally, such as student wages, property taxes, and fair employment standards. It has also raised concerns about the province’s electric vehicle sales targets.

The Chamber said dealers face shortages, affordability issues, and limited charging stations. “EV adoption must be balanced with practical timelines, market realities, and the needs of businesses,” the Chamber said.

The Chamber is also asking for road and bypass improvements in the Tri-Cities to support growth. It will join a roundtable soon with Jobs Minister Ravi Kahlon to continue these discussions with the province.

Beyond advocacy, the Chamber said it also connects members through networking events, helping them find partners, mentors, and support in the business community.
