The Port Moody Farmers Market has launched its annual Follow the Elf campaign, encouraging residents to shop locally during the holiday season. The weeklong promotion runs from December 1 to 7 and features daily social media posts of the market’s holiday mascot, Buddy, visiting businesses across the city, according to a press release from the organization.
The campaign highlights a different independent shop, artisan or eatery each day on the market’s Instagram and Facebook pages. Viewers who like, share and comment on the posts will be entered to win a $300 prize package that includes contributions from Parkside Brewery, Olive the Best, Gabi and Jules, Caffe Divano, The Little Butcher, Eden West Gourmet, Port Moody Liquor Store and the Port Moody Farmers Market.
In the release, Executive Director Tabitha McLoughlin said the Market hopes the campaign will introduce residents to local brands and products they may not know about. She added that while the Market works closely with small growers and makers, the online series provides another platform to highlight businesses throughout Port Moody.
The campaign aligns with BC Buy Local Week, which promotes the economic value of supporting British Columbia retailers. According to the Market, Canadians spend up to $1,500 during the holiday season on travel, food and drinks, and every $100 spent at a local business recirculates $63 back into the provincial economy.
Residents can follow the Follow the Elf campaign on the Market’s social media accounts from December 1 to 7 for a look at local businesses and a chance to win the prize package. The Port Moody Farmers Market can be found on Instagram and Facebook at @portmoodymarket.
The Port Moody Winter Farmers Market operates every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. between November and April at the Port Moody Recreation Complex on Ioco Road. According to the Market, it was established in 2008 as a biweekly market located in the lobby and courtyard of the Recreation Centre before expanding into a weekly event.
The Market also operates a summer season, offering local produce, artisan goods and baked items every Wednesday during the warmer months.
