Port Moody City Council will consider issuing a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) to temporarily add retail, bar, office, and event space at Site B, located at 3012 Murray Street.

Council will discuss the proposal at a council meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 7 p.m.   If approved, the permit would allow Site B, the company behind the proposal, to operate these temporary uses for three years, with the possibility of an additional three-year renewal at the council’s discretion.

Site B presents its proposal as an opportunity to enhance Port Moody’s cultural and social landscape. The company aims to host community events, corporate functions, and nonprofit fundraisers in its 8,000-square-foot space. Plans include adding a bar and securing a Liquor Primary License with a Family Food Service Term, allowing families to enjoy events together.

Site B has noted in its submission that there have been no complaints from neighbours regarding noise or disruption after a year of operating under a Special Event Permit.

Under the retail amendment, Site B envisions the space serving as a venue for events such as farmers’ markets, ski and snowboard sales, and beer festivals, providing local vendors with a place to sell goods. Other proposed events include live music performances, talent showcases, art exhibits, culinary experiences, and dance nights. For corporate use, the venue would cater to Christmas parties, networking events, and product launches. Nonprofit groups, sports associations, and educational organizations could use it for fundraising and training sessions.

To minimize community impact, Site B plans to enforce a 10:30 p.m. cutoff for outdoor activities and close bay doors to reduce noise. Proposed operating hours for the event space are Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The site offers 14 parking spaces on evenings and weekends to accommodate visitors.

In a written submission to the council, the company notes that there have been no complaints from neighbours regarding noise or disruption after a year of operating under a Special Event Permit.

Expanding Office and Co-Working Spaces

Beyond events, Site B is also looking to expand its office and co-working offerings, aligning with Port Moody’s Economic Development Plan to increase workspace opportunities. The company is exploring a partnership with The FountainHead Network to bring a well-established co-working model to the area, including 40 open-concept workstations, private meeting rooms, collaboration zones, and high-speed internet. Members would also benefit from discounts at local businesses, including breweries and cafés.

Site B describes its mission as fostering community connections and strengthening partnerships with local businesses, particularly those in the Brewers Row district. The company argues that its proposal aligns with the city’s Official Community Plan by providing a versatile space that supports social, cultural, and economic activities.
