The City of Port Moody will host a community celebration on Sunday, April 13, to mark the official renaming of Inlet Field to Bob Favelle Field, recognizing decades of service by local soccer advocate Bob Favelle.
The event will take place from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Inlet Park (3024 Murray Street). Mayor Meghan Lahti, members of City Council, representatives from local soccer organizations, and Mr. Favelle himself are scheduled to speak. The celebration will include the unveiling of a new field sign, followed by refreshments and opportunities for community connection.
“Let’s come together to celebrate Bob’s achievements and his deep commitment to soccer and to players of all ages,” said Mayor Lahti. “This renaming honours his impact on the sport locally, regionally, and provincially. For more than 26 years, Bob has been a coach, mentor, and leader, inspiring generations of players.”
A former executive director of the Port Moody Soccer Club (PMSC) and a past director of BC Soccer, Favelle has played a key role in expanding soccer opportunities across the Tri-Cities and beyond. Among his contributions, he launched an adult soccer program in Port Moody and led a 2006 celebrity fundraiser that helped fund bleachers for Trasolini Field.
His long-standing dedication has earned him multiple honours, including a BC Soccer Award of Merit (2003), a City of Port Moody Sports Award (2014), and Life Membership in PMSC (2016).
City Council officially approved the renaming of the field in December 2024.
