When Metro Vancouver residents think of the Tri-Cities, they think of comfortable neighbourhoods, spectacular parks and landscapes and a solid economic base.  Still, people in our communities go hungry.

Yes, there is a problem of food insecurity in the Tri-Cities area. Demand at our local food bank is increasing, and many residents are struggling to afford groceries. It’s no secret that the rising cost of living, including housing, contributes to food insecurity, leaving less money available for food. Food insecurity is growing in reach. Some individuals and families who were previously financially stable are now struggling to make ends meet and require support from food banks.

Food insecurity is not just a statistic; it’s a heart-wrenching reality for some. But together, we can change that! By raising money for food programs, we’re not just filling bellies; we’re serving up hope, dignity, and a sprinkle of joy.

The Rotary Clubs of the Tri-Cities see RIBFEST as an opportunity to address the problem of hunger in our town through direct assistance to the Starfish Program and to SHARE. The Starfish Program is a weekend food security initiative that provides nutritious meals to schoolchildren who rely on school breakfast or lunch programs during the week.  It is operated by Rotarians and is funded by local Rotary Clubs and School District 43.

The SHARE Food Bank provides direct food support to supplement the diets of hundreds of individuals and families each week. SHARE believes everyone should have access to healthy and nutritious food where they live and in a dignified manner.

Please join Rotary clubs in the Tri-Cities in tackling this challenge.  ALL PROCEEDS from this years RIBFEST 5050 draw will go directly to SHARE and to the Starfish Program to address food insecurity.

Tickets start at $10 and are available online at: https://portmoodyribfest.ca/50-50-draw/

Port Moody Ribfest is a three-day festival taking place from July 18 to 20 at Rocky Point Park. This family-friendly event features BBQ, live music, local craft beer and a family fun zone. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Moody, this annual event raises funds for local and international community initiatives. Admission is by donation.
