Staff report
May 15, 2025 10:12am

Police in Port Moody are requesting the public’s help identifying a suspect who stole a youth’s backpack.

On Saturday, May 10, Port Moody Police Department received a report of a backpack theft, which took place around 6:20 p.m. A youth playing basketball at a school in the Heritage Woods area had put his backpack down briefly, but then discovered the bag was missing soon after.

Video cameras captured the incident and a suspect, who is seen crawling on a stairwell at one point in an apparent effort to avoid detection from nearby passersby. The suspect is described as a Caucasian female in her 40’s, with blonde shoulder-length hair, and slim build. She is wearing a grey hoodie and navy jeans. She appears to be smoking a cigarette beforehand and may have departed the scene in a Grey Mitsubishi SUV.

“This was a very brazen theft, taking advantage of youth who were playing basketball nearby,” said Constable Sam Zacharias, adding that “this backpack did contain valuable items and we are keen to reunite the stolen goods with the rightful owner.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Port Moody Police or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.

Is there any news yet? This is a pretty clear picture of the thief. She must have a family and friends. Do the right thing and call the police.
