Two drivers have been charged and had their vehicles impounded after Port Moody Police caught them street racing on Barnet Highway last week.
According to police, the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on May 14, when patrol officers observed both vehicles racing near Reed Point Way. Speed radar clocked them at 147 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Both drivers were stopped and now face charges under the Motor Vehicle Act and street racing-related impoundments.

The incident was among several recent high-speed infractions reported by Port Moody Police during May, which is designated as high-risk driving month in B.C.
In another case, on May 22, around 1 a.m., police stopped a BMW travelling 151 km/h westbound on Barnet Highway. The driver, who holds a Class 7N novice licence, received a minimum $483 fine and had the vehicle impounded. On May 18, an officer pulled over a motorcycle doing 96 km/h in a 50 km/h zone near Barnet Highway and St. Johns Street.
The female rider was found to be a prohibited driver and operated without insurance. She was arrested, and the motorcycle was impounded.
“May is high-risk driving month, and the Port Moody Police Department has enhanced its enforcement,” said Constable Sam Zacharias. “We continue to see high-risk driving behaviour in our community, and we are again reminding the motoring public to slow down and use caution on our roads.”
