A routine roadblock turned into a major arrest last week when officers stopped a wanted man and uncovered a vehicle full of suspected stolen goods, Port Moody said in a news release.
On November 28, 2025, just after 11 p.m., a frontline officer conducting a roadblock stopped a driver who failed to produce a valid licence. After the man provided his name, police checks revealed he was wanted on a B.C.-wide arrest warrant for breaching a release order.
The 40-year-old Nanaimo man was taken into custody. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers found what appeared to be stolen property — including hundreds of sports memorabilia cards, collector coins, and tools, police said.
“While we are looking for impaired and unlicensed drivers during these check stops, there is always the potential of intercepting other forms of illegal activity,” said Const. Sam Zacharias. He added that officers also removed three impaired drivers from local roads over the past weekend.

According to police, investigators are still cataloguing the suspected stolen items and are working toward recommending charges. The man remains in custody pending a court appearance.
