Port Moody will kick off the festive season with its annual Holiday Cheer at the Pier event on Saturday, November 29 at Rocky Point Park. The City announced the details in a notice on November 13, stating that the free, all-ages celebration will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rocky Point Pier and Boat Launch.
In the announcement, Mayor Meghan Lahti said the event offers residents a chance to gather with “friends, family, and neighbours” as the community heads into the holiday season. According to the City, activities will include live music, games, crafts, a bonfire, and an opportunity for families to visit Santa. The City is also encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable food items or new toys for donation to support local families in need.
Midway through the notice, the City also thanked the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority for sponsoring the event. Lahti said the support helps “inspire community connections” and strengthens Port Moody’s sense of community during the holiday season.
Visitors can expect a range of activities throughout Rocky Point Park. Port Moody Fire Rescue will host a bonfire and begin collecting toys for its 2025 Toy Drive, while Port Moody Police will gather non-perishable food items. Santa’s Christmas Ships are scheduled to arrive in Burrard Inlet around 6 p.m., adding to the evening’s festivities.
Pop-Up City Hall will offer treats, and several community groups will lead hands-on activities. The Rotary Club of Port Moody will provide hot chocolate by donation, PoMoArts and the Port Moody Public Library will offer ornament decoration and a scavenger hunt, and the Blackberry Artist’s Society will host a mini winter market. Carnival-style games, musical performances, and roving entertainers will also be on site. Food trucks will serve meals and snacks for purchase.
The City notes that the event is accessible for visitors using wheelchairs, strollers, and mobility devices. A sensory-friendly tent, operated by Recreation staff, will be available for families. Public washrooms will be open, and the event will continue rain or shine.
Residents are encouraged to walk or use public transit due to limited parking at Rocky Point Park. Pay parking remains in effect until 7 p.m., and additional paid parking is available at the West Coast Express Park and Ride.
Leashed dogs are welcome, but the City advises residents to leave pets at home if temperatures drop significantly. Smoking, vaping, and alcohol consumption are not permitted.
The City says it looks forward to welcoming the community as the holiday season officially gets underway on November 29.
