The City of Port Moody has committed to a 30-year Trail Network Plan aimed at improving access, connectivity, and safety across trails, the city said in a news release. The plan, endorsed by city council on September 9, 2025, outlines a long-term vision for recreation, active transportation, and environmental stewardship.

“Our trails provide opportunities for recreation and exercise, social connection, and enjoyment of nature,” said Mayor Meghan Lahti. “The Trail Network Plan will guide us in preserving and enhancing the trail experience for all users while supporting our climate action goals.”

According to the city, the plan identifies four main goals: provide a high-quality experience for trail users, connect the community for recreation and active transportation, protect culturally and environmentally sensitive areas, and support stewardship of trails and surrounding environments.

The Plan also presents a proposed trail network extension that includes more authorized trails in parks and green spaces and more connections between parks.

The proposal includes improved multi-use paths and bike routes to connect Pleasantside with Belcarra, and the Glenayre, Seaview, and College Park neighbourhoods with Moody Centre and with Burnaby Mountain and Coquitlam trails. Some connections will require further study to confirm feasibility.

The development of the plan included a review of the current trail network to identify gaps in access, connectivity, and best practices. Public engagement occurred in two phases, including online mapping, community surveys, pop-up events, and information sessions.

Residents can view feedback from both phases at engage.portmoody.ca.
