A registered nurse in Port Coquitlam has been suspended and will face practice restrictions following a consent agreement with the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

According to the BCCNM, Gregory Lazar agreed to the terms on August 28, following the identification of practice concerns between January and August 2024. The issues included not consistently following physician orders, completing patient assessments, documenting care properly, adhering to medication administration standards, and following facility protocols.
BCCNM noted that nurses are accountable for meeting professional practice standards as well as their employer’s policies to ensure safe patient care. When standards are not met, remedial and supportive measures may be implemented to address concerns while maintaining public safety.
The consent agreement includes a one-week suspension and a formal reprimand. Lazar must also work under several restrictions for six months, including not being in charge, not being the only registered nurse on duty, and not supervising other nurses. Lazar must also practice under supervision for three months and complete remedial education related to the concerns.
“These measures are intended to address practice concerns and protect the public,” BCCNM said in its statement.
