A 20-year-old man from Port Coquitlam died Friday after a tragic skiing accident at a resort in Rossland, BC.
Trail and Greater District RCMP said officers were called to the resort at 4:08 p.m. on March 7 after the man failed to return to his family during a ski run. According to police, the man had taken a different path down the hill and did not rejoin his group. His family contacted ski patrol, prompting a search.
Patrollers found the man unresponsive, with a piece of ski equipment entangled in a tree, restricting his ability to breathe. Despite immediate efforts to revive him and transportation to waiting paramedics, he did not survive.
The BC Coroners Service is now investigating the death.
“Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends after this very tragic and sudden event,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich of the Trail and Greater District RCMP.
