A Port Coquitlam family will honour the legacy of Jaxson MacDonald by establishing a scholarship in his name. MacDonald passed away in an accident recently.

His parents have launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund scholarships for young rock climbers pursuing their dreams at the Youth National and Youth World Championships.

“Michael, Troy, and I want to thank everyone for their love and support. We have been through the unimaginable, and we want to do something in memory of Jaxson,” wrote his mom, Dayna MacDonald. “We are hoping to keep his spirit alive by creating a scholarship in his name to support young rock climbers on their journey to Youth National and Youth World Championships.”

MacDonald was a dedicated climber who competed at three Youth World Championships and numerous National Championships. He concluded his youth climbing career as the Youth National Lead Champion and runner-up Bouldering Champion. After competing, he gave back to the community by becoming a provincial and national route setter.

The family hopes the scholarship will help young climbers who need financial support to reach elite-level competitions.

“Jaxson lived life to the fullest and accomplished so much for such a young man but couldn’t have done so without the support of many through his journey,” his family shared. “His greatest joy was spending time with his friends climbing.” “We are hoping through this scholarship to provide that same inspiration to those that follow his path.” Dayna wrote.

The GoFundMe campaign is live and has raised over $33,000. It aims to raise $50,000.
