The New Westminster Police Department is investigating a series of early morning break-ins that resulted in a significant police presence in the Uptown neighbourhood on June 13.
Police responded to three different businesses in the Uptown neighbourhood between approximately 4:30 am and 5:30 am. The break-ins occurred in the 300 block of 6th Street, the 600 block of 6th Avenue, and the 700 block of 6th Avenue.
Officers from several different teams responded to secure the scenes. The NWPD Forensic Identification Unit was deployed to collect evidence, and the Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) assisted with a search of the area.
“At one point, there were officers at three different crime scenes within a few blocks of each other,” stated Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “I want to thank all the units who came to assist. The public understandably took notice of the large police presence, and we want to thank everyone for their patience.”
Investigators are trying to determine if one suspect is responsible for all three incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
