A New Westminster man has pleaded guilty to seven criminal charges linked to a series of intimate partner violence incidents investigated by the New Westminster Police Department.

Police say the investigation was launched after officers responded to multiple reports involving a pattern of escalating violence. The Specialized Investigation Unit led the case, with support from the NWPD Victim Assistance Unit and a Family Services of Greater Vancouver counsellor.
The charges against Soviak include:
-
Two counts of assault
-
One count of unlawful confinement
-
Two counts of breaching a no-contact condition
-
One count of obstruction of justice
-
One count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
Soviak remains in custody pending sentencing, which is scheduled for August 2025. Police are urging anyone experiencing intimate partner violence to seek help from law enforcement or local support services.
