New Westminster man found guilty of assaulting woman, killing cat

April 30, 2025 5:19pm

A New Westminster man has been found guilty in a violent assault case dating back to October 2023.

Ryan Jensen, 34, was convicted on April 24, 2025, of multiple charges including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, following an investigation by the New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit.

The charges stem from an incident in which a woman flagged down a New Westminster Police Special Constable, reporting that she had been violently assaulted inside a suite on Agnes Street. Officers identified and arrested Jensen later that same day. Jensen was found guilty of one count of aggravated assault, one count of assault with a weapon, one count of killing or injuring an animal, and two counts of breaching a release order.

“This outcome reflects the unwavering dedication of numerous teams within the New Westminster Police Department,” said Sergeant Justine Thom. “From the initial call to supporting the victim at trial, every team involved played a crucial role.”

The NWPD credited several units for their roles in the investigation, including the Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, patrol officers, the Victim Assistance Unit, and the Special Constable who first responded.
