New West Police investigate after woman stabbed in both arms

Staff report
May 6, 2025 5:55pm

New Westminster police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Monday morning in the 500 block of Columbia Street.

Officers responded to a report of an assault with a sharp-edged weapon and arrived to find a woman suffering from stab wounds to both arms. Police said the victim was bleeding heavily, and officers applied tourniquets to stem the bleeding before paramedics arrived.

The woman was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services. Her condition has not been disclosed. Additional officers at the scene began gathering evidence, speaking with witnesses, and canvassing nearby businesses for surveillance footage.

“Officers acted quickly to provide emergency aid and begin gathering evidence,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver. “We’re still determining the full circumstances of what happened.” Police have not confirmed any relationship between the suspect and the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
