A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening staff with a weapon at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster on October 4, police said in a release.

Police said they were called to the hospital around 10:20 a.m. after a 9-1-1 call reported a man with an edged weapon making threats toward staff.

When officers arrived, they found the man still armed. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the man refused to drop the weapon. Police then used a conducted energy weapon to safely take him into custody.

“Hospital staff face extraordinary pressures and should never have to worry about their own safety on top of caring for others,” said Sergeant Andrew Leaver in a statement. “We’re grateful for their professionalism and we’re committed to being there when they need us.”

No injuries were reported.

They were probably abusing their power and trying to involuntarily lock up this poor guy. The staff at Royal Columbia Hospital are so rude and are not accountable for anything they do and abuse their power every chance they get
