After over a year of redevelopment, Port Coquitlam’s Leigh Square is set to welcome residents back with a fresh new look and enhanced features, the city announced in a press release. The city will mark the grand reopening with a celebration on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 6 pm to 9 pm, featuring live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities.

What’s New at Leigh Square?

The revamped square now boasts several new amenities, including:

  • An extended Donald Pathway connecting Wilson and McAllister Avenues.
  • Fully accessible pathways and surfaces, making it easier for everyone to navigate the space.
  • Enhanced lighting and clear sightlines to improve safety.
  • New seating areas for relaxation and social interaction.
  • A designated area for a future playground, designed for families.
  • A landscaped space with a new water feature to create a refreshing environment.
  • A rehabilitated streetscape along Leigh Square Place.
  • A new stage facing City Hall, designed for concerts, festivals, and community events.

Mayor Brad West described the redesigned square as “a true community hub, designed to bring people together at all times. With its new features, Leigh Square will be a place for residents to enjoy on any given day, as well as a venue for live performances, festivals, and other community events.”

“This transformation is an investment in the future of our downtown,” said Councillor Dean Washington. “Beyond providing a space to relax and enjoy, it will drive economic activity and enhance the well-being of our community.”

Grand Reopening Celebration

The grand reopening celebration on April 4 will feature:
  • Ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 p.m.
  • Live music and performances
  • Food vendors
  • Family-friendly activities

The Michael Wright Art Gallery will also host art activities, while families can participate in a felting workshop at The Outlet from 7 pm to 9 pm. Attendees can also explore The Outlet, Gathering Place, and Heritage Museum, which will remain open during the event.
