A wildfire burning east of Highway 99 near the Skyridge development in Squamish has now grown to five hectares and is suspected to be human-caused, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

The fire, listed as V30558, is currently classified as “Out of Control.” Crews on site include a response officer, a four-person initial attack crew, and a 20-person unit crew. Two helicopters and an air tanker group are also being deployed.

Squamish Fire Rescue first responded to the fire Monday afternoon and has asked drivers not to stop along the highway to view the blaze, citing safety risks and potential traffic hazards.

The wildfire is under investigation. Human-caused wildfires can start through accidents or intentional actions. For official updates, visit the BC Wildfire Service website.
