Port Moody’s Inlet United Church will celebrate 100 years of its Ioco Road site with a public event on Saturday, September 27, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The wooden heritage church at 1790 Ioco Road first opened in 1924 on the historic Ioco lands. With its pews, stained glass windows, and a real bell in the steeple, the building has been a landmark for a century.
According to a press release from Inlet United Church, the centennial celebration will feature church tours, a bake sale, and mini worship services throughout the afternoon.
“If these walls could talk, they would tell stories of wars, memorial services, weddings, baptisms, concerts, youth groups, potluck lunches, bake sales, candlelit Christmas services, music-filled Easter celebrations, and so much more,” said Rev. Jenn Swanson, minister of Inlet United. “This church has embraced the community for the past 100 years, and we hope it will continue to do so for the next 100.”
The Ioco church has long served as a community gathering space, hosting Sunday school, thrift store shoppers, daycare children, fundraising events, and celebrations of all kinds. More details about the celebration are available at www.inletunited.ca.
Organizers say the event is open to everyone and encourage residents to “come as you are” to explore the building’s history and mark this milestone.
