Coquitlam councillor Craig Hodge has announced his intention to run for mayor in the next municipal election, according to a social media post he shared on Facebook.
Hodge made the announcement at an event attended by colleagues, elected officials, and community leaders. Former councillor Terry O’Neill served as master of ceremonies, with remarks from current Mayor Richard Stewart, Councillor Matt Djonlic, and Hodge’s son, Brandon.
“I will be spending the next year meeting with residents to learn their priorities. My campaign will focus on managing growth, ensuring affordability for residents, multi-types of housing and maintaining public safety at a time street disorder is increasing in communities across Canada,” he said.
Several provincial and local representatives were also in attendance, including MLA Jennifer Blatherwick, former MLA John Cashore, Selina Robinson, and MP Finn Donnelly, along with mayors and councillors from neighbouring municipalities.
According to the post, Hodge’s speech emphasized the importance of continuity and experienced leadership at city hall, as well as greater collaboration with other levels of government. “My campaign will focus on managing growth, ensuring affordability, supporting diverse housing options, and maintaining public safety,” he said.
Craig was elected to the Coquitlam City Council in 2011. The next election will be held in October 2026.
