The City of Coquitlam is asking residents, businesses, and community organizations to share feedback on a streamlined and simplified version of its Interim Official Community Plan, the city said in a press release.
The OCP outlines the city’s long-term vision for land use and development. The city said the purpose of the document is to provide a clear framework for how and where Coquitlam will grow.
The city called the interim OCP a “housekeeping update,” intended to provide more accessible documents for community members.
The document will also incorporate updates to policy directions required to implement provincial housing legislation, including Transit-Oriented Areas, Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing, and the Housing Needs Report.
According to the City, the revised plan does not include new policies or land use changes, but instead focuses on reorganizing and consolidating existing information. The updated draft reduces the document from more than 1,000 pages and 2,100 policies to roughly 100 pages and 350 policies.
The interim update also includes changes to urban design guidelines to streamline development approvals and updates to the Regional Context Statement to align with Metro Vancouver’s Metro 2050 regional growth strategy.
Public engagement will take place through four in-person sessions in November and a virtual information session on Nov. 20. An online survey will be open from Nov. 5 to Dec. 3 on Let’s Talk Coquitlam.
Feedback will be summarized in a “What We Heard” report that will go to the City Council in early 2026.
A full review and comprehensive update to the OCP is expected to begin in 2027 to meet the provincially mandated five-year update deadline of Dec. 31, 2030.
