Join the Coquitlam River Lions Club in supporting Walk for Dog Guides

The Coquitlam River Lions Club invites the community to lace up their walking shoes for the annual Walk for Dog Guides. On Sunday, May 25, residents of the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas are encouraged to participate in the annual Walk for Dog Guides, an event to raise funds and awareness for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guide Program.

The walk, co-sponsored by Bosley’s Pet Valu, takes place at Lions Park (2300 Lions Way) with registration starting at 10:30 a.m. and the walk beginning at 11 am.

The national Dog Guide program provides professionally trained service dogs at no cost to Canadians living with physical or mental disabilities. These dogs assist with various needs, including vision and hearing loss, autism, seizure response, diabetes alert, and mental health conditions.

“Dog Guides do more than assist — they empower,” said the Coquitlam River Lions Club. “This program touches lives not just across Canada, but right here in the Lower Mainland. Every dollar raised locally helps someone gain freedom, safety, and a renewed sense of connection to the world.”

Organizers emphasize that the event is more than a fundraiser — it celebrates independence made possible through community support. From children with autism to seniors with mobility challenges, many Canadians benefit directly from the companionship and assistance of a service dog.

Participants can walk solo, form teams, or bring their dogs along for the route. Donations are welcome, and all proceeds go toward the Lions Foundation’s efforts to train and place service dogs nationwide.
