Coquitlam RCMP warns after 21 home break-ins in three weeks

staff report
December 18, 2025 11:38am

Coquitlam RCMP is warning the public following a series of residential break and enters.

Since November 23, Coquitlam RCMP has received approximately 21 reports of residential break and enters in which the suspects have gained entry through a rear sliding glass door. The break and enters have predominantly taken place between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

“We are actively investigating this recent series of break and enters in our community. Our officers are working diligently to identify those responsible and keep our community safe, says Sergeant Brent Misquita, Coquitlam RCMP STRIKE Force, “We are asking residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police immediately. Your awareness and timely reporting can make a critical difference in apprehending those involved in these incidents.”

Tips to protect your home:

  • Set your home alarm
  • Secure your doors and windows
  • Don’t hide spare keys outside your home or in your vehicle
  • Install security cameras if possible; they are a strong deterrent and can help police identify suspects
  • Use timers or smart devices to turn on lights, radios, or TVs when you are away, to make it appear someone is home
  • If you’re going out of town, have a trusted person regularly check on your home
  • In this particular investigation suspects are predominantly targeting houses that back onto green spaces, trails or back alleys so we ask those people to be extra vigilant.

Residents should also consider joining or starting a local Block Watch group. Block Watch is a free, community-based program that connects residents to crime prevention information and resources specific to their area. For more information on Block Watch, visit the Coquitlam RCMP website.
