A-General Pest Control Ltd. in Coquitlam has been issued a warning by the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Parks after inspectors found multiple violations of provincial pesticide rules.

The inspection, conducted on July 14, at the company’s Leclair Drive location, reviewed pesticide use records and storage practices from 2023 to 2025. Inspectors found incomplete recordkeeping, improper storage of products, and the use of an expired pesticide.

According to the ministry, records from several service dates in 2025 did not include required details such as application methods, weather conditions, and client advisories. Inspectors also noted that customers were given only verbal warnings about outdoor pesticide use instead of the written treatment notices required by law.

Two rodenticides, Flatline Soft Bait and Ditrac All-Weather Blox, were found stored in unapproved plastic containers without proper labels. In addition, the company used Maxforce Roach in February 2025 after its federal registration had expired.

MAXFORCE ROACH (PCP# 24240) was used after the products federal registration under the Pest Control Products Act had expired.

“The inspected pesticide use records did not include the method and rate of application, prevailing meteorological conditions, injury thresholds, or proper client advisories,” Senior Integrated Pest Management Officer Muhammad Sarfraz wrote in the warning.

The ministry directed the company to correct the issues and provide a written response within 30 days outlining the steps taken. If the company fails to comply, it could face administrative penalties of up to $40,000 or court fines of up to $400,000 for corporations, with higher amounts for repeat violations.

This is not the first compliance issue for A-General Pest Control. The company received advisories in 2022 and 2023 for similar violations. The ministry said this latest warning will form part of the company’s compliance history and will be prioritized for follow-up inspections.
