Dog owners in Coquitlam have until the end of January to take advantage of discounted rates for their pet licences after 2025 tags expired on New Year’s Eve.

The City of Coquitlam has announced that the annual renewal period is now underway, offering significant savings for those who act before February 1.

Renewing early not only saves money but also helps ensure lost pets are quickly reunited with their owners. Each dog licence links your pet to the Coquitlam Animal Shelter, allowing staff or residents to identify and return missing dogs promptly.

Discounted fees are available for early renewal. Spayed or neutered dogs cost $32.50 if renewed by February 1, rising to $50.50 afterward. Non-spayed or non-neutered dogs are $66.10 before February 1 and $84.10 after. Owners must provide proof of spay or neuter to qualify for the lower rate.

Dog licences can be renewed online at coquitlam.ca/dogs, by mail with a cheque payable to “City of Coquitlam,” or in person at the Coquitlam Animal Shelter or City Hall during business hours. Residents are encouraged to sign up for email notifications to receive future renewal reminders.

All dogs over six months old are required to be licensed, and bylaw enforcement may issue fines for unlicensed pets. Licence fees support the Coquitlam Animal Shelter, funding care for stray, abandoned, and injured animals while covering animal control and other regulatory services for responsible pet ownership.
