Charges approved against two in Coquitlam hit-and-run

Staff report
March 2, 2025 9:42am

Coquitlam RCMP has announced that charges have been approved against two drivers involved in a multiple hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a pedestrian in January.

The incident occurred on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 9:45 p.m. at Pinetree Way and Guildford Way. Officers on patrol found a seriously injured female pedestrian being assisted by a Good Samaritan. Police say the victim had been legally crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle. Moments later, while unconscious on the ground, she was hit by a second vehicle. Neither driver remained at the scene.

Following an in-depth investigation, the BC Prosecution Service has charged Chin Tung Cheung of Coquitlam and Gurdeep Singh Dhanoaa of Abbotsford with failing to stop after an accident causing bodily harm under Section 320.16(2) of the Criminal Code.

“The pedestrian victim continues to recover from this serious and senseless incident,” said Constable John Graham, Coquitlam RCMP media relations officer. “We implore drivers to actively watch for pedestrians and take the necessary time and care to navigate roadways safely.”
