In his summer newsletter, Mayor John McEwen said Anmore is moving ahead with plans to expand and enhance Dr. Hal Weinberg Spirit Park, with the next round of community engagement set to begin in September.
An officer recently stopped a driver at Forbes Ave and 1st St for ignoring the no-left-turn sign. What seemed like a minor traffic violation turned into much more. The driver had no licence, no insurance for a year, and no front plate.

Phase 1 of engagement wrapped up earlier this year, with residents sharing input at the Easter Egg Hunt and through an online survey. Popular suggestions included an outdoor amphitheatre, a covered picnic area, nature-themed playground equipment, expanded walking paths, and a bike pump track. Other ideas such as a toddler play area, community garden, and mini golf were also raised.
A concept map prepared by Village staff and engineers confirmed some features, including the road alignment, parking lot, plaza, and gazebo. Other elements remain open for feedback. While a pool was frequently suggested, McEwen said it is not feasible because of infrastructure limitations.
Phase 2 will ask residents to weigh in on preferred uses and amenities. The Village is also exploring the option of expanding Spirit Park onto its Ravenswood Drive lot, which would connect the park more closely to the Anmore Community Hub.
“Together, we are shaping a civic space where the community can work, gather, and celebrate for years to come,” McEwen said.
