Three people are in custody after a 70-year-old woman was slashed during a fight at Metrotown SkyTrain Station in Burnaby on Friday, September 5.

According to a news release from Metro Vancouver Transit Police, the altercation began just before noon inside the station. The woman, who was not involved in the fight, was slashed in the leg with an edged weapon.

The suspects fled the scene but were later arrested. Two discarded weapons, believed to have been involved in the assault, were recovered nearby.

BC Emergency Health Services attended and transported the woman to the hospital. Her condition has not been released.

“We are still in the early stages of the investigation, but we do not believe the victim and the suspects knew each other,” Constable Amanda Steed said in the release. “This violent incident has had a significant impact on a woman who should be able to safely ride transit.”

Transit Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to investigators to call 604-515-8300 or text 87-77-77.
